8 Ways To Embrace Autumn

Last weekend saw the Autumn equinox, the moment at which the sun is directly overhead at the equator, before it starts its journey southwards in our skies.

It also marks the point at which our nights become longer than our days. As a summer lover, I've had to learn over the years to welcome, rather than resist, autumn.

Here’s how I do it:

  1. Pack away my summer clothes (selling/donating any that I haven’t worn/look tired/no longer love) and get out all my cosy knits, scarves, and socks.

  2. Pull out all my softest blankets and leave a basketful by the side of my sofa to snuggle beneath in the chilly evenings.

  3. Light my scented candles to create a warm glow and comforting fragrance as the evening starts to draw in. These tick all the boxes.

  4. Buy a whole bunch of non-scented candles and light these in the darker mornings to start my day with a little magic.

  5. Go on BIG walks and see, smell, feel the autumn change in the air.

  6. Take Vitamin D daily - spray or drops are more easily assimilated by the body. Combine with K2 for maximum efficiency. These are good.

  7. Get a project going - there is a real magic in making something with your hands and I recently knitted a baby blanket for Florence. It took a few false starts and a fair bit of YouTube but I’m so happy with the finished result. You can buy all kinds of cute knitting/crochet starter packs at Wool & The Gang. Highly recommended.

  8. Binge on a box set - with previously mentioned blankets, candles and crochet. I’ve been loving Slow Horses and La Maison on Apple TV, plus Emily in Paris on Netflix and Apples Never Fall on iPlayer.

Happy Autumn!
