How To Feel Better
Feeling emotional, distracted or anxious? Honestly, you’re not alone. The world feels heavy right now. The combination of global pandemic, climate crisis and the heartbreak of this war, makes it hard not to feel a sense of despair, anger or even paralysis.
At times like this it’s important to take good care of yourself, so you can better help others. Here are my simple suggestions to help shift you into a more present and positive mindset any time things feel tough.
Find Small Ways to Help
Doing something always feels better than doing nothing. Focusing on what you can do will help stop you feeling helpless. Donate your talents, time or money, find a creative way to volunteer. Stay calm and steady, create islands of sanity and safety for the people you love, create ripples of kindness where you can.
Escape to Nature
Drive with the windows down. Go on a walk and look up at the trees. Sit by a river, lake or pond and breathe in the sights and sounds. At the very least put all devices away, go outside, breathe deeply and let the weather touch your skin.
Immerse Yourself
Make, bake or create something. Write a poem, do a sketch, plant a shrub, read a book. Put your favourite music on and dance. Look at things that make you happy – old photo albums, your favorite coffee table book, images of places you’d love to visit.
Clean Sweep
Our physical surroundings inform how we feel, and it doesn’t take much to make a big impact. Clear a surface. Declutter a drawer. Vacuum up the dust bunnies. Bring in some greenery. Change up cushions or blankets or prints. Move the furniture around if you feel ambitious.
Just Move
Movement is medicine and an instant mood booster. Get on your mat and throw a few shapes. Pick a Quickie from the Members’ Library - even fifteen minutes of yoga will help you reset.
